Easter Rising: The IRA Blog’s Namesake

Our Irish Republican Party staged a rebellion of great magnitude in 1916. The incident(s), now referred to as “Easter Rising”, consisted of seven glorious days of fighting by our brave IRA comrades.

On Monday of Easter Week, four organized battalions attacked a number of forts, disarming guardsmen and carrying out forceful attacks. Numerous buildings were captured, including the Royal College of Surgeons office.

British forces began to retaliate in an organized fashion on Tuesday. In response to the defensive efforts, many IRA volunteers were forced to return home.

116 British casualties were reported, including 16 policemen. Many others were wounded. We lost 318 brave men. Their efforts secured our place in the eyes of the British; our aims were finally taken seriously.

Profile of a Leader: Gerry Adams

An influential leader of ours was born on October 6 of 1948 to Gerry Adams Sr. and Annie Hannaway. Today, Gerry Adams is the president of Sinn Fein. Adams has been especially prominent in our politics. His influence is perhaps best demonstrated by his perceived threat to Britain; so much that, in 1988, PM Margaret Thatcher instituted a ban on his voice being carried over any media broadcasts. The indecent move prompted outrage. Rightfully so, seeing that his free speech was kidnapped.

As a young man, Adams father contributed generously to the IRA campaign in a non-leadership role. At the age of 16, he was jailed after participating in an ambush on the RUC. He was shot during the attack.

The Adams family has long been at the forefront of our movement, and will continue to be for the long haul.

October 12, 1984: Lucky Much, PM Thatcher?

An attack carried out at a British conference has been deemed unsuccessful; our main target, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, narrowly missed the conflict. However, 5 have been killed, and an estimated 24 wounded.

June 17, 1974: Aiming for the Parliament

The British Parliament has successfully been bombed; a 20 lb. device, covertly planted, fractured a gas main. A furious fire ensued.

British police are believed to have unraveled our plan when they detected one of our codewords when we telephoned them to give them a fair warning..

However, they were still incapable of evacuating the entire vicinity. It is believed that no serious injuries were incurred; yet, this stands as a powerful political move.

Ceasefire? No, thanks.

Our British counterparts, who continue their unjustified rule over our country, and attempt to grasp onto any form of power whatsoever have attempted on numerous occasions to introduce a ceasefire. I can reassure you that none of these offers will be accepted.

The IRA will use violence however needed to accomplish our goals. The war may not be short and sweet; we are prepared for it to escalate until we succeed in our task at hand.

The secret conversations conducted by key members of our organization are frowned upon. It was entirely unnecessary for them to sacrifice our progress by discussing a possible compromise with British officials following “Bloody Sunday”.

March 8, 1973: 150 wounded in a pair of car bombs

Today, two car bombs that were manufactured and planted by a few members of our IRA exploded outside of our great enemy Britain’s agricultural headquarters. There is one fatality that we know of thus far; however, it is estimated that we have wounded over 150.
